Introduction

of 'Face of The Mirror'

The variety of topics Mr. Dhruva Narayan Singh Rai has selected for the subjects of his essays is an innovation and a great contribution to fulfil a long-felt need of such philosophical, political, educational and social essays in this genre. Though mighty minds have aimed at and added something to this field yet the different aspects that Mr. Rai has treated single him out from the row and rank of conventional types of essays. It's true the so-called father of English essay Mr. Bacon, too, strove hard to enrich this genre. But his appurtenances are confined to the field of literature and don't serve the purpose of common readers. So far as Rai has dealt with the subjects are undoubtedly novel and speak themselves of self intuition and the philosophical view of life and his deep study of human behaviour. In fact, these are the outcomes of his personal understandings and angle of vision for the implementation in life for all and sundry who are out themselves groping in the dark for an unknown destination where all aspirations end and man remains stranded without any source.

In respect of the information Mr. Rai has gathered can be classified in four categories such as personal and philosophical, political, social and educational. The introduction of  respective categories of  the essays will acquaint us with the rules of grammar and the use of words he has interwoven  his thoughts in the rosy bud for the feast of inquisitive minds. The first category of essays such as 'Face of The Mirror', 'Pitfalls', 'The old,  An unwasted Treasure' along with essays 'The Building Up' are the treasures of knowledge the to unlock and get rid of the disappointment for those who have been victims of procrastination and lag behind in the race of life on accout of wrong decesions either in hibernation or in hot haste. In this connection we can enjoy his first essays 'Face of The Mirror' which points out our folly and like the great saint Kabira instructs us to find out everything within or without diverting our attention to to outer world. Truly speaking it is the deeds that justify the success or failure of man. Again the essay 'The Building up' guides our way to learn ourselves what we are? The assertion of  Mr. Rai that no single and simple way can be ascribed for the achievements of destination in life instructs us to reckon ourselves what we are? The assertion of Mr. Rai that no single and simple way can be ascribed for the achievements of destination in life instructs us reckon ourselves. The essay like 'Pitfalls' reminds us of the proverb 'As you sow, so you shall reap' in fact, hatred breeds hatred together with faul intrigues involving the weaver itself. The most striking subject Mr. Rai has attempted at gives consolation to The Old who are often connived at by the spirited youngs out of ignorance and lack of study of human behaviour. It's true the old are the unwasted treasure of  knowledge and experience whose association can change the course of our life particularly in the hour when the youngs are baffled with a number of problems in life. Though generally kept aloof and unheard, the old are the springheads of knowledge and experience of a long journey of life,

The sincere efforts that Mr. Rai had made in presenting before us the essay with the epithet 'Humanity Undivided' calls for our attention to the need of universal brotherhood and fraternity. He has rightly retorted and refuted the unhuman division of man with the pronouncement 'East is east and west is west, the twain can never meet.' In fact, Mr. Rai takes us to the origin of man and comes with a message 'Humanity Undivided.' It is a revelation to the humanity which has shrunk in size and concept because of the selfish motive of the rulers. In addition the essay with the title 'Politics, A Fair Play' guards the politicians against the danger of using faul means in politics, Infact, Mr. Rai has brought to light that it is the politicians who have put the board upside down in order to serve their vested interest at the cost of the innocent common mass round the globes. Mr. Rai has shown his sympathy to the ignored down-trodden fair sex who have been made foul. Though many treatises have been framed and thereby many changes come in the society yet the fate of the fair-sex remained the same. So all the ways and means to uplift women from their mooring status have proved 'A cry In the Wilderness.' As a matter of fact even today the women are nothing but toys to play with for the appeasement of man's physical instincts. Mr. Rai has taken into account the helpless condition of women in general and that of the windows in particular who have remained to be the food for the wolves and the debauchees of the society. Though born and bought up in the same family women have got no recognition in society who can change the course of man's life and bring heaven on this earth. Mr. Rai doesn't tire in giving a new hope when he calls upon them to 'Come Forward' and share the common wealth and occupy a place of honour and dignity in the world. Mr. Rai infuses in them the spirit of self respect.

Lastly the judicious and unbiased outlook of Mr. Rai and his wailing for the ugly scene in the field of education is most striking to our attention. As a true teacher he remains to be a judge and honestly holds the trinity. The teachers, the guardians as well as politicians and the officials are equally responsible to spoil the sanctity of education. In fact he doesn't spare the triangle to lash for their misunderstanding and false idea which make the coming generation a prey to indiscipline. To sum up that all the essays show the efforts of a well read man who has artistically dealt with a variety of subjects and here lies the ability of Mr. Rai as a superb essayist.
